If I told you guys who inspired me to put my cooking apron on, you probably wouldn’t believe it.
I was motivated to learn how to cook in 2013 after being introduced to British model Jourdan Dunn’s cooking show on Jay-z’s Life & Times Youtube channel. I received the link in an email blast, and out of curiosity and to humor myself, I watched the first few episodes.
I will admit, I went in to it with a pretty tainted perception of the show. My first few questions where, “What can this pretty bish teach me about cooking? And is she really cooking up these meals or is it all for show?” However, I found it to be enjoyable, and it quickly defied the stereotype that thin girls can’t cook. She especially sold me when she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty as she cooked up some game day wings.
Somebody wife her up stat!
Anyway, on the first episode of the second season, she invited model Cara Develinge to cook with her. Mind you, early in the episode Cara says she only knows how to cook toast and baked beans, and that “Modern Day Wifey’s don’t need to know how to cook.” Ha!
I guess I should add that in the winter of 2013, I learned how to cook various meals by watching videos on allrecipes.com, and it wasn’t until I learned how to crank out some good meals, that I finally felt like a woman. It kinda validated my womanhood a little and I found myself eating a lot healthier as well. I grew up in a non-cooking household, so microwave dinners and high sodium quick-meals like Ramon noodles consumed my body for the bulk of my childhood. I don’t want to raise my kids that way, and I now feel as though I am more than prepared to hold down my household and my family when that time comes.
Now, I can truly say that I’m wifey material. 🙂
Dear Future Hubby, I’m ready…
