THE STORY BEHIND MY HAPPY FLO

If there’s one thing Necole Kane knows, it’s just how lethal generational secrets about women’s reproductive health can be, especially for Black women.

As a women’s health advocate and the founder of My Happy Flo, Necole is changing that narrative by providing women of color with holistic solutions for hormonal imbalances as well as educational content to help lower their risk of period pain, fibroids, endometriosis, breast cancer and other reproductive health conditions caused by estrogen dominance.

Her journey to launching My Happy Flo was inspired by her family’s history of early deaths caused by preventable illnesses. By the age of 35, realizing she had endured the losses of both parents, and multiple women in her family due in part to lack of knowledge around nutrition and lifestyle, she began looking inward at her own health and habits to learn how she could prevent herself from having the same fate.

During her research, she learned a sobering statistic – an estimated 80% of women were living with hormonal imbalances which could manifest into more serious complications such as fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid disorders, breast cancer and estrogen-induced cancers if left unaddressed. Black women in particular were 2 to 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with fibroids and face more severe menstrual systems such as heavy bleeding, cramping, migraines, bloating and nausea. For decades, the only options presented to address these symptoms were birth control and painkillers that could lead to long term side effects and health risks. Necole recognized that there was a silent epidemic rising among women and never being one to shy away from a conversation, she started talking to her community and building the solution.

Through outreach and surveys she found that Black women were being ignored

They were being overlooked by their healthcare providers or being carelessly prescribed medications without proper diagnoses of their underlying health conditions. This sparked passion and urgency in Necole to launch a holistic product that women could easily integrate into their daily lives, and that would supplement the vitamins and nutrients they were commonly missing, all while creating hormonal balance and subsequently reducing the risk factors of reproductive health related complications caused by estrogen dominance.

Necole’s approach to My Happy Flo was built with the same strength and tenacity that she’s brought to her entire career as a media mogul. She has become a part of a movement of Black women taking charge of their wellness while becoming their own best health advocates. My Happy Flo believes in not only access to holistic solutions, but education, awareness, and cultivating safe spaces for women to tackle taboo topics related to their menstrual cycles.
