Over the past few months, I’ve been reading a lot of business, marketing, branding and communication books but to break the monotony of all the non-fiction I was reading, I decided to give myself a mental break and indulge in some good novels.
My reads for the summer are, “Black Girl In Paris” by Shay Youngblood and “Accidental Diva” by Tia Williams. I’m really like 2 seconds from running off to Paris for a few months just to experience a different perspective on life and emerge myself in a new culture so “Black Girl In Paris” is right on time for me. I’ll give an updated review of both books when I am done.
What are you reading this Summer?
Adding those to my reading list ASAP! I am currently reading quite a lot lol.. but just completed Americanah by Chimamanda Adichie, amazing read! I recommend it highly! Now reading Manuscript Found in Accra by Paulo Coelho which is a very insightful read as well.
@D.od, Thanks for sharing. I am going to check out all of these, especially the Paul Coelho book. He’s a spiritual teacher I’ve heard of and I love books by spiritual thinkers. I also need a fiction break!

“Black Girl in Paris” is a great summer read. You should breeze right through it.
I’m on my 9th book for summer and currently reading “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.” I will also recommend “Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Americanah is a great read. My mum just finished it and she loved it, it’s on my list of summer reading along side The Alchemist.
The Uprising By Lisa M. Stasse & The Warmth of Other Suns By Isabel Wilkerson.
Finishing “The Kite Runner” then “Decoded” ~ Jay Z….adding yours to my list
The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel. He’s one of the people that they reference in The Secret.
Completing Nicholas Sparks’ Message In A Bottle. Ann Jones’ Kabul In Winter and Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner on deck
I’m revisiting an old fav of mine Little Women. Ive read it so many times, but I still get teary-eyed.
There’s nothing like the joy of being submerged in a good book. Both books sound will be added to my collection.
This summer I’m reading everything Michael Connelly. Had no idea lawyer-type books could be so intriguing. Right now I’m reading Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler. Pretty funny.
I wanted to add, my first novel, Parallel Pasts, was published June 11th. When you start your book club back up, I’d like to giveway a couple of books to your club members or as a random giveaway at any time. You can find out more about it at ParallelPasts.com. =)
For my guilty pleasure I was reading The Cartel series (urban hood fiction); but I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, am now on 48 Laws of Power, and SOcial Media Metrics for Dummies.
I have not read either books, but will most likely start with The Dream Giver. I also think some of the previous posters have wonderful books suggestions!
Black Girl in Paris is good!
Accidental Diva is a great read. You should also look into Fashionably Deceptive by Tonia. It’s a great summer read with great reviews on Amazon.
please share the communication books you read! I love this post, but as a recent graduate, I would love those!
