I was shopping the other week and a guy approached me. I had sparked his interest because I was standing there in the sticker and photo album section of Target, concentrating with at least two scrap books in my hand and a ton of stickers. He walked up to me and started an ‘excuse me miss’ type of conversation before I asked him, ‘Do you think I should get this one or this one’ while showing him a nice pink scrap book and then a green one. He said, ‘well the pink one is pretty’. I said jokingly, ‘Okay! I’m gonna get green because I’m going to be RICH!’ and put the pink one back.
We both laughed and then he said, ‘What are you doing?’
I said, ‘I’m about to make a Vision Book’. Of course, he wasn’t familiar with what it was so I explained:
“A vision book is a scrap book of your goals, things you want to achieve and personal things you want to attain’.
He was intrigued.
Honestly, I first heard there was such a thing back in 2008 while reading Uptown Magazine. The Editor In Chief wrote a column about her ‘Vision Book’ that she made from magazine clippings and three years later, she went back and looked through her book and realized she had achieved everything that she had placed in that book. I was inspired.
I believe in God. I also believe in the Law of Attraction.  If you visualize and think about something enough, you will attract that into your life, no matter if it’s a person, place or thing. I started visualizing what I wanted for myself in 2008 and those things started slowly manifesting in my life. A vision book makes my visualization process clearer.
I also changed my attitude as I began to realize that the energy that you put out in the universe, reflects back on to you. How can you want positivity and great people in your life if you are always spewing out negativity or have a negative perception of everything around you. One of the most common traits I’ve found in very successful people who have went on to build huge brands are their positive outlook on life and their willingness to share their energy with the people around them. Once I changed my attitude and perception of things, my life started to change. (Now, I’ll admit, I’ve had some rough patches over the last year or two where I’ve reverted back to that negative attitude but in return I’ve attracted that negativity right back into my life).
Anyway, back to the story…
After exchanging numbers with the guy (I told him I’d invite him to my next vision board party). I went home to begin my vision book. I’ve made a vision board in the past, which is made on a posterboard, but this time I wanted to make a book so that I could continuously add things over the years and be able to also look back and see what I’ve accomplished.
First I pulled out my magazine. I have over 200 magazines that I’ve collected over the years so I began the process by looking through them and cutting out the things that reflected my goals. Some things included:Â A television camera (I’ve always had dreams of producing), Home decor, a couple in love (everyone wants true love), etc etc.
Next I threw the clippings in a File Folder that with tabs labeled ‘Career’, ‘Relationships’, ‘Family’, ‘Travel’, Personal Wants etc. This way I could go back and pull out the clippings for each category and easily construct them on the page as I would like.
I decided to make the first page about my short term career aspirations, so I pulled out my Green scrap book and stickers!
Once I placed the clippings on the page neatly, I took a glue stick and glued them down! And Woo-lah. This is the first page of my vision book.
Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be adding ‘Long time career goals’, ‘Family’, Travel, Relationships etc
Have you ever made a Vision Board?
How has it affected your life?
Feel free to share
♥ it, Necole! I will definitely be making one!
i heard about vision boards on this girls blog who i found on twitter recently. I thought it was a great idea and I immediately typed one up so I wouldn’t forget. I have yet to make a physical one that I could hand up somewhere. i’m gonna do it today. i think it’s a great way to stay positive and organize your thoughts/ideas. lord knows my mind is everywhere.
I have made vision boards for years…and I have in time watched things come full circle. My husband didn’t understand why he found me one day collaging until months later I started to mark off what once was a picture that now stood as a possession and tangible reality that if you can see you can have it. Enjoy. I know it works, I see it in my own life. If you don’t like your current reality create what you want, write the vision and watch it manifest!
Hi Necole, This is a great idea!. I have an old vision board that I did about 3 years ago – but I’m in a different place right now so I will definitely be making a vision book. I know a lot of people like to call it the law of attraction but this same principle is throughout the bible for example: Habakkuk 2:2-3 “And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make [it] plain upon tablets, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision [is] yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Be blessed and much continued success. You are very inspirational, keep up the good work! 🙂
i am going to do this…..THANK YOU!!!
I’ve been hearing alot about vision boards lately. I am going to make my own also, thanks for the inspiration. To the poster above me, THANK YOU for providing the scripture because that truly spoke to me. Everyone be blessed and a blessing.
Wonderful idea! My mom turned me on to them. They are very inspiring and fun! I haven’t done one in a while, but now I’m inspired to do one now!
I have one!…but I do my on tumblr…it’s a private blog that I share with just me and the LORD. I feel that the LORD can hear, feel and see my dreams aspirations and prayers!…and before I would just make lists of things I wanted and I would forget about them and then when I would go back to them there were so many things on there that I was blessed with!…I even have a list for my future husband lol!…I remember my mom did our preacher and his wife’s hair…and one day my mom was doing his wife’s hair and my mom was like Stephanie how did you end with such an amazing good looking man…and Stephanie replied say when I was 15 someone told me to make a list of everything that I look for in a man/husband but when we first me each other i couldnt stand him because he thought he was all of that! lol but he eventually got me to go on a date with him…once I was old enough my mom told me to do the same so I’ll be blessed with a good man and a good marriage!…I believe it…no matter what your beliefs are you just have to believe that it can happen!
I have been putting off doing this for years but you inspire me to take some time out to make it happen! I recently launched an online boutique and my friends are still shocked that I jumped out and did that. I always maintian a positive outlook and I truly believe it is helping. Can’t wait to share my vision board with you <3
I started a vision board in 2007 after I saw an Oprah episode. And several things have come to pass after. I’ve taken the items down that have come to pass but I still have the pics. I will b making a vision book though. And I’ve also started writing things down.
I am so glad you posted this. I love anything positive. I am going to start one page at a time today. I have a lot of pressing goals that I have to start making plain and direct to move forward. I have a business but I have to start to progress further in my business and personal goals. Thank you for your post. It was very inspirational.
Wow great idea…
Great explanation and pretty book 😉 I usually make a vision board every 2 years but a vision book sounds better.
I love vision/dream books/boards. I’ve been creating vision boards for a few years after watching the secret. Last December, I hosted my first vision board party. It was a great experience. I decided to do a vision/dream book this go ’round because I had plans to do a lot of traveling this year and wanted something I could fit in my purse to look at while out of town. It’s funny looking back and realizing stuff you put in there has already manifested.
For instance: I have a section for travel. I put the word travel with a plane underneath followed by the word international. A couple of months later I looked at my book and realized my first plane trip this year was international and it was on the same airline that was in the book.
As far as career…I included making movies, screenwriter, turning books into films. Now, here I am in L.A. about to begin a screenwriting program at a local university. I had NO plans of going to school. Just so happened to come across an advertisement and the rest, as they say, is history.
Just goes to show that sometimes you have to put things in black & white, create visuals of your plans because thinking them just isn’t enough!
I wanna come to your vision board party. ^_^
WOW! Talk about confirmation. I was just thinking of creating a vision board but a vision book sounds so much more exciting. Thank you for your blog, your achievements, and your ability to teach your readers what you have learned along the way. You are such an inspiration! Keep up the good work.
Hey I loooove the idea, also have tons of old mags at home, i could never throw them away. Will start asap. and buy a nice notebook or something to do it.
Thanks for the inspiration Necole!!
I’ve made a vision board before and I’ve started a second one but didn’t finish it. I LOVE the idea of a vision book…Thanks for sharing! This will be my next project.
I have a vision board – well its not a board per se its actually a digital picture frame and in it are pictures and goals, inspirational quotes, etc – reason I have it on a digital frame is that they’re in my view all the time and I can see them in the morning when I get up and in the evening before going to bed. Found it very helpful
I once made a poster with my photos on it and words from a magazine that described me. I love this vision book idea and I will be doing it!
This has inspired me to get back to my dreams and my reality! I have the DVD of the Secret and it always leaves you thinking. Law of Attraction is a powerful thing and many people are aware what they can create. I am one of tose people. But, by reading your story Ms. Nicole I need to get back to work. THANK YOU!
I normally do vison boards but you have given me a great idea to do a book!
Great post Necole. I’m on my 4th vision board right now. This is my truth: “I believe in God. I also believe in the Law of Attraction. If you visualize and think about something enough, you will attract that into your life, no matter if it’s a person, place or thing.”
I started making vision boards a few yrs ago not much has come true yet but I still have hope and I am working towards my goals/dreams/visions all the same.
I think I like the board vs book cause I can see everything all at once….that is the OCD talking 🙂
I will be starting a vision journal this weekend. I’m inspired. Vision Board Party, here I come!
Thanks, Necole!

I have had vision boards but never a vision book. This has me excited. I was just cutting out images for a new board but now I want to a vision book. I shall work on it this weekend. I love the idea of the book being able to go with me at any time I need inspiration and ideas.
I WILL BE MAKING ONE OF THESE TONIGHT! I remember back in high school, we had a motivational speaker and he believed that his success came through putting his ideas out physically…meaning that if he had a goal, he would write it on a sheet of paper and look at it everyday until he accomplished it and your vision book sends off the same message to me. I am in a critical point in my life, and I don’t necessarily know which way to turn. I have a storefront that I opened about 7 months ago and the expenses are killing me. I have had this great idea for an online store and after reading your stories I’M GOING FOR IT! I have to do what’s in my heart, and not what everyone else believes I should be doing. I want to be rich financially, but I also want to be rich in my mind, body, and spirit…the only way to accomplish that is to go out and get what I want! Thanks for the inspiration!
This is a great idea. Very inspirational. I plan to implement it.
I love this idea of the vision book and I went out and bought all the materials that I need and I’m also a graphic designer so. I have found things on the internet and created me a board in photoshop and put it all together and printed it out and place it in the book. That way if you have an idea at that moment you can search it out and print it out or place in a folder on you computer until you get a complete page. And I love you Necole you are so positive. I have been here since you started your blog and I’m glad that your move to LA has been everything that you wanted it to be. And you are only going to continue to grow. God bless you. And if you have a vision party — I would love to come.
This is a great idea! I started on my vision board! Very inspiring and motivating to see all your dreams and goals within reach. Just put God first and all your visions and goals will come true. Keep inspiring Necole 🙂
@Shayla- you can do it. Follow your dreams.
@Tiffany- great idea of keeping it digital and adding as your find inspiration.
I started my vision board on November 18th. I am focusing on my short term wants and goals at the moment(i.e. college, being a better person, paying off debt).Necole, I would love to be invited to one of your vision parties. I am in Atlanta right now but I will be living in LA soon(real soon) and maybe we can vision party it down!
Whatever your dreams are, never give up. Are you living or are you just existing?
Stay Bitchie!

Sooo i just got my stuff for my Vision Book!!! I can’t wait. Thank you sooo much for the idea!!!!!
Helloooo, pinterest.com!!! It’s amazing ….and addictive.
I love this idea, I once hung a board in my closet covered with women who inspired me. There were over 100 women on the board. Oprah, Clair Huxtable, Susan Taylor…All women who inspired me to be great in all aspects of my life.
I love vision boards! Not only have I achieved my goals but the boards (and soon to be book) pushes me to do more
Thank you so much for spreading the message of vision boards. I am believer in the power of attraction and affirmation and tell others about vision boards whenever I can. I love the idea of a book in lieu of a poster, but whatever you feel most comfortable with is the most important. If you are interested in hosting a vision board party like some of the other ladies mentioned, visit my website at http://www.beyondpurpose.com to get started. I also help with writing affirmations and making action plans to match your vision!
Keep dreaming!
